The Lost Lighthouse: The Weekly Rapture 51 – Burn it Down

Welcome back to The Weekly Rapture, brought to you by The Lost Lighthouse.

This week we chatted about the Warcraft trailer, Force for Daniel and Alien:Covenant, while Adam hates pointless construction and Gary is made uncomfortable by the concept of sex.

Gary in 60 seconds was ”Troll Hunter’, with Adam attempting to summarise this Norwegian found-footage film in under a minute. Gary is up next time, so keep an eye on Twitter today for the poll to choose what he goes for!

Following on from another Twitter poll, for the main talking point this week we discussed sex scenes in films and whether they are ever necessary or if they should just be made obvious but not shown. We have differing opinions, especially on the use of the word necessary.

The Lost Lighthouse: The Weekly Rapture 50 – Candy or Money?

Welcome back to The Weekly Rapture, brought to you by The Lost Lighthouse.

This week we chatted about a new Star Trek series, BBC’s upcoming His Dark Materials adaptation and the Preacher trailer, while Gary laughs his most real, authentic and hysterical laugh, and Adam interrupts a lot.

Gary in 60 seconds was ‘The Thing’ (1982), with Gary taking on the creepy sci-fi horror. We’ll be putting up a twitter poll today to pick which film Adam should do next time, so make sure you vote in that!

In the spirit of not-Halloween-anymore, for the main talking point this week we talked about our favourite horror films, with some excellent suggestions from all of you.

*Also, the poll results from the Alien 5 or Prometheus 2 twitter poll we set up during the recording ended up being incredibly close with 56% wanting the Neill Blomkamp Alien 5 over 44% wanting Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel, indicating that we are totally misrepresenting our audience! Maybe we should stop ragging on Prometheus so much! Doesn’t seem likely.*

The Lost Lighthouse: The Weekly Rapture 48 – Rewatching the Watchmen

Welcome back to The Weekly Rapture, brought to you by The Lost Lighthouse.

This week we recorded in the same room! As a result this is probably the most rambling, tangential episode we have done in a very long time. And that is really saying something. We chat about all the cool teasers for the upcoming Jessica Jones Netflix series, the Back to the Future 30th anniversary celebrations, the talks about a Watchmen series on HBO, the excellent new title for Prometheus 2 and Transformers films coming out on a regular basis until you are a distant memory and the universe enters heat-death. We also talked about blue dongs and 2009 a lot, and waste about 10 minutes trying to remember the plot of Transformers 3.

Leading on from talking about Not-Prometheus 2, 3 and 4, and Transformers 5, 6, 7 and 8, this week’s main talking point (sort of) was how many directors and studios are announcing all their upcoming movies and sequels for the next 500 years, regardless of how good the first film was or how well it did.  Gone are the days when a film was written as a single, tight entity and then if a sequel was conceived of then it was green lit. Now we know every genre film coming out until 2020, which is simultaneously exciting, not exciting at all, and a terrifying reminder of our own mortality. What do you think about it? Let us know!
