First Thoughts Review: Dragon Age Inquisition

Gary finally gets time to play a very small amount of a very large game!

The game starts with an explosion, a very large one at that. I think if I’d played the other two games then the explosion would be more significant but oh well, I haven’t.

I’m not going to spoil any plot lines but from the get go I love this game. The visuals are simply stunnning and the controls are as smooth as a baby elf’s buttocks. The combat is a little hack and slash but still very enjoyable.

Character creation is what you make if it, I know some people like spending hours changing little details, I don’t. The races choice gives you the classics: human, dwarf and elf but now you also get to choose a massive half daemon. I chose the latter.

You start the game as a villain in the eyes of the people, but quickly become the hero. Darn fickle common folk!

I’ve only managed to get a few hours under my belt but I’ve loved those hours intensely. Even when you’re doing considerably small things, like setting up camps. Some games makes these little missions a chore, but not Dragon Age.

Would you want this game? Well I have a simple question. Do you want to play a game that’s an awesome mix of Eldar scrolls fantasy fun and Mass effect style rpg-ness? If the answer is yes then buy this game immediately. If it’s no, take a considerably long look in the mirror, and know you disappointed me greatly.

Gary.

The Lost Lighthouse: The Weekly Rapture 26 – Dynamite on Horses

Welcome back to The Weekly Rapture, brought to you by The Lost Lighthouse.

This week we chat about the lo-fi ultra-real Fantastic Four film coming up, Suicide Squad casting, the terrifying Amazon Echo and Bioware being generally nice folks, while Gary doesn’t like almost all of the news and Adam starts swearing about people that say how many sleeps there are until Xmas. It’s mid-November.

No main talking point this week, but Gary in 60 Seconds is back. This time Gary tries to sum up 1982’s Conan the Barbarian in less than a minute. Does he make it?

The Lost Lighthouse: The Weekly Rapture 19 – Native American Burial Ground

Welcome back to The Weekly Rapture, brought to you by The Lost Lighthouse. This week we chat about the best weapon for a zombie apocalypse, new Smash Bros. characters, Bioware looking for fan feedback for ME4 and possible DC/WB missed opportunities, while Gary reveals he is an awful geek and Adam tries and fails to make a salient point about the best way to promote gender and race in comics.

The main talking point this week was the Alien series. We discuss the films and what we love and hate about them, and how excited we are for Alien: Isolation later this year and that original Nostromo crew DLC coming too. We also try really hard not to be too negative about Prometheus again.

The Lost Lighthouse: The Weekly Rapture 3 – The Floods

Welcome again folks to The Weekly Rapture, brought to you by The Lost Lighthouse. This week we discuss Batman: Arkham Knight, Paddington Bear for some reason, our general indifference to the Transformers 4 trailer and the exiting news that we are finally getting those hoverboards we were promised, while Adam buys a lot of things and Gary deals with the floods.
Our main talking point this week was the Mass Effect series from Bioware. We talk about why we love the games, the most enjoyable sections, our favourite (and least favourite) characters and why choosing the female Commander Shepard is the only logical choice. We also touch on the end of the trilogy (without spoilers) and the outcry that led to Bioware releasing the ‘Extended Cut’ ending.
